- Charge before you need them, not hours before. The clock starts the moment charging stops. Charge at dusk, not at noon, if you want maximum brightness at midnight.
- Use direct, unfiltered light. Ten minutes outdoors beats two hours behind a window.
- Spread them out. Pieces piled in a jar shade each other. Lay them in a single layer on a white or light-coloured tray, which reflects light back onto the sides.
- Turn them over. Halfway through charging, flip each piece so light reaches the underside.
- Wipe them clean first. Dust and fingerprints block light. A quick wipe is a free brightness upgrade.
- Keep them cool while charging. Warm pieces release stored energy faster — they glow brighter for a shorter time. Room temperature gives the most balanced result.
- Top up with a UV torch. Thirty seconds with a 395 nm flashlight before bed extends the usable glow by hours. This is the single best trick for party displays and Halloween setups.
